JAN 3 - elated as my paper on Energy conservation is selected at the National level symposium at MIT ,anna university,chrompet
JAN 4 - won first prize for creative writing at MIT ,chrompet
- sad as didnt make it to the quiz finals due to improper correction of quiz prelims .

JAN 25 -almost broke my back sitting the 100 rs stand at chepauk watching IND VS ENG and lost my voice for some time , call it the "sachin and sehwag effect " .

JAN 26 - Attended the odyssey quiz without a partner after exchanging 6 partners where each one pulled out citing some stupid reason or the other .

FEB 1 - my glimpse into what a BIZ-QUIZ is all about , attending ET in the classroom quiz .( not bad 9/25 compared to toppers 18 )

FEB 6,7 - participation in e-luminate ver 2.0 , symposium of Hindustan engg college, my first crash course in birdwatching.

FEB 12 - the bloody results are out .................

FEB 21 - it's my birthday and what better way to celebrate it ? went to hindustan engg college with prassana to the E&I dept symposium and again took a refresher course !!!!!.

FEB 22,23 - I realize i am in the midst of mediocrity in veltech ,as my team members dont contribute a an answer in the sports and general quizzes . the SACHIN TENDULKAR of Vel Tech ( ur's truly)is unhappy with the commitment shown by his team mates.

FEB 25 - the day cant get better, it's the IEEE assosiation of our college conducting an interdepartmental quiz and paper presentation . I easily win the quiz and come 2nd in paper presentation and the week begins on a good note .

FEB 28 - roaming out again , go to bharath engg college to attend their symposium and given the death knell when i dont see my name in the quiz finals , but see some one else from my college ahead of me qualify by a point .

MARCH 1 - i go to SIFY, in tidel park to invite the chief guest for our symposium KIRUBASHANKAR and find him to be a very interesting person .

MARCH 6 - VELSYSCOM 02 was our symposium for which i work literally in all the departments day and night , but the seniors pour cold water over my plans by behaving and interfering in true vel tech style .

MARCH 7 - my class in charge BALA (SALA) dosent sign my record saying i was late in submitting it and to add insult to injury he says he never saw me doing any work for the symposium and in front of my eyes he signs the record for other guys who were late saying they worked hard for the symp .

NEVER BEEN HIT SO HARD MENTALLY .

PS: - now that , the moron of a lecturer has been chucked out of my college , so no fear on the post of his name in my blog

APRIL1- fooled srivatsan and vinushankar by disguising my voice and telling them that they won a prize worth 3k and asked them to check their mail and gave them a nice shock

MAY 6 -Exams are over and i decide to watch a movie with my friends ashish,ganesh and prassana. we go for AAP MUJHE ACHE LAGNE LAGE which to date still hurts me as to how i could waste 45 rs on absolute crap . the movie is one of the worse made ,big hype movie......

JUNE 6 - College reopens and as usual the day goes on and on........

june 29 -Attend India's first online journals meet called the Blogger's meet in Chennai.

JULY 8 - The dept of E&I conduct a inter departmental quiz , a mixture of general as well as technical and I cling on to the "best quizzer" tag winning it by a big margin

JULY 26 - SRI VENKATESHWARA ENGG COLLEEGE, TIRUVALUR conducted their symposium and being 15 kms away from avadi , i decide to go and make a mark in tech quiz , gen quiz and adzap where the crowd gives a huge round of applause for me...

AUG 5,6,7,8,9,10,11- are simply the days i will treasure throughout my life as i tour SVCE,AMRITA(qualify in the the national level quiz finals ) , and OOTY with 6 of my friends with the tag "ON DUTY" .


SEP 6 7 - come 3rd in a quiz at jerusalem , win web designing and come 2nd in a quiz at raja rajeshwari engg college.

SEP 17 - I am invited to be the host of the mech dept quiz , but the guys feel the questions to be to0 hi-fi so i pull out 2 days in advance . on the day of the symposium , MECH dept finds too few participants so sends an SOS to all the classes that even students from vel tech can participate and i am there in the hall in a jiffy and it turns out that i win the quiz and a cash prize of 1000 rs . the last 2 months brought me more than 5000 in cash money .


DEC 30 - I again win the 4th sucessive quiz in my college and am happy , but disaster strikes in the evening with the results ...............

DEC 31 - reflect on the deeds and misdeeds of the year 2002 and watchin K3G

JAN 1- 2003 - i am presently typing this ............

well after such a long time i saw rangoli on tv (DD) after i guess 5 years . todays rangoli was fully dediacated to Rajesh khanna and kishore kumar . if that wasnt enough i saw a bit of tom and jerry on CARTOON NETWORK ,- some thing to make my mood after india's loss to NZ -( quite a close match though) . i got up at 4 30 in anticipation ofindia winning but alas , couldnt see India win , probably got up on the wong side of the bed !!!!!!!

well , with regd to my symposium in college , the event is scheduled on 13th and 14th of feb 03, but still a lot of things have gotta be finalised . today i seemed as if i was on an extra dose of opium considering the way i slept in class , till lunch . the teachers have gotta handle the class much better , if they want my attention ....

Princi's said no that evening , but there is some light at the end of the tunnel ....... our so called assisgnment tests havent been announced and so have the mid sems . so the possibility of attending the symposium at Amrita is still open . looks like i gotta lot of coaxing 2 do ..
heading a symposium is said to be a matter of prestige in all colleges , but in mine it's a pain , coz most of the guys feel it's a waste of money and time . well if they kept themselves at that it would have been not too bad , but there are some guys on the prowl who are looking to loot some money thru the symposium .. just wonder what these guys will do in life if they cant be honest at this level .

well tommorow , i have quite a job to do , which requires setting up some rules so that no cash is looted ...

well it cant get better for the first year guys in my college , these guys have college reopening on 24th dec and so have all teh time in the world to attend the symposium at AMRITA inst of technology , Coimbatore .if i were in first year , i would have made sure i bunk a week off to attend the symposium . jus saw the ECE dept's URL < http://aitec.amrita.edu/cbe/elenchus/> . i hear that a general quiz is on the anvil ............and i am supposed to be writing those munsdane 3 hr exams in coll at that time ...........tch....tch.... 2 sad ..

Symposiums are some thing i love , coz it tests your knowledge in a competitive atmosphere and u know really how good u actually are and that too with outstaions trips it's all the more interesting bcoz u get to spend time with ur friends and last time when we went to amrita , we bunked a day xtra to go to ooty and that was one helluva lovely journey ..

seems like igotta wait for some time till an outstation trip comes.......................

just got some hot news that some thing happened in coll today. didnt go coz all teachers were away, for some meeting and it seems the class rep has to head the class( that's me). but in the garb of giving them some competency course some of the teachers were given the rude shock that they were to be sacked!!! the past few days have been real fun , with some guest lecture or the other in the sense that we were spared the drudgery of college . today some one was to give us a lecture on VLSI , but unfortunately we had lab and so it didnt happen, but no probs tommorow all the teachers are going off to attend a seminar on core competency , so no classes , but...... the rule says that the class representative must handle the class. our class rep is too good a guy to take classes (your's truly!!!). so donno whether i may attend college bcoz the last time they conducted this so-called XPeriment , i was last seen on the last bench lazing with a couple of magazines and my ears plugged to my SONY .

today it was refreshing to see some progress made in our symposium plans as our HOD and the network administrator gave the orange signal , but the green signal is to be given by our chairman regd the event .

oh what a day!!!!

college was boring as usual , with me putting on my zzzzzzz.....ing shoes . the only bright part of the day was the seminar I gave today in college abt guided media in data communication and networks . I personally volunteered to do this yesterday as I felt I had to sprinkle life into the class with the teachers method making the class fully drab.

the second part being , the fact that since we at least have 1 free period a day , i keep the class engaged by conducting a quiz or a debate and this has been going all over this week. it just happened that 2 such classes ( quizzes) was managed by a new male staff. at the end of the quiz at 3 40 pm he came over and was so impressed with me , he said he likes me very much bcoz of my knowledge . He also said that i should try and participate in quizzes outside college in symposiums and walked out .

i was laughing within myself , coz the poor guy dosent know thats the only thing i do while in college ( going to symposiums twice a month) as the classes are ever boring .

Anyway at the end of the corridor i thanked him , and told him about my quizzical conquests and there was a big gleam across his face and he congratulated me and walked away .

i came home at 6 pm and my friend prassana came home with the CD of the new hindi flick " DEEWANGEE" and that kept me engaged for the night . the movie is one of the best murder mysteries i've seen in bollywood since GUPT and HUMRAAAZ. Akshaye Khanna and Ajay Devgan have played their roles to perfection in this movie and what a shiver it generated down my spine . i would rate DEEWANGEE a 8 / 10 on the richter scale of excitement ( if there was one )

college has started , and we have been given the shocking news that the internal marks of twenty have ben tampered with and that issue was the talk of the week. well in a way that will make me to work even harder to get higher internals and perform better( but cant still help brooding over the fact that i would be getting lower internals , all due to the idiotic academic cell). i guess the number of symposiums will be reduced this semester , as i have to start seriously thinking about my sinking BE aggregate ...........( which is set to hit an all time low due to this sem's internal scam). classes have begun in all seriousness and so have i ! !

well time has just flown by , coz college reopens tommorow . i guess it will take a week for the teachers and students to start comin in full flow . anyway i dont mind a few free periods ............

i am just back from watching AMERICAN DESI at SREE . it'a cool movie abt a guy called krishna gopal reddy( rather ...kris , that's how he calls himself) who cant stand the fact that he is an indian and mocks at the relegious practices . he finally ends up in a engg school where his room mates are supposedly indian's!!!! . soon he gets used to the environment in college with the same old story( boy meets girl and happy ending , along with a dash of a weak and sour villain) . but on the whole the movie is avery good comedy movie giving an insight into the lives of indians pursuing higher studies abroad , with all the distractions...................( that really inspires me to work harder on my GRE ! ! !).

well madipakkam dosent get any better , with the rains , it's back to square 1 with the rain water upto 1/2 my car tyres in the ground floor . now where am i gonna retreat to ?????? i cant stay here coz i feel really bored and restless . i've been COUCHPOTATOing for the past week and my brain is totally drained of what was there inside . i cant go out to buy some snacks nor can i go to any VCD shop to kill time ... well life is sickening to say the least .

my only escapade from these rains in this holidays has been my prescence at my friend achut's sisters wedding . there i met up with some of my classmates and and some of his and we boys had a nice time there ! ! ! . but all that lasted only for a couple of hours as it was getting late and i had to return home .
some of myclassmates have scheduled a meeting( inspired by me of course) tommorow regd our symposium , which i gotta attend , but the state of water here is alarming . the only i can attend that is to go bottom less( like topless ! ! !) coz i have to wad thru all that thigh deep water ( just jokin !).

regd my amazon adventure in my previous blog , my area MADIPAKKAM and Velachery are totally submerged and full of floods all due to the reversal of a small lake's flow towards our direction . the water level from 2 feet has now gone down to a few inches ( thankfully) . since i couldnt stay put in this wretched place without current , i had to make a small shift in the dead of the night( 4 30 am) from my place to my cousin's . i had to wade thru dirty water for abt 2 kms as all the bus and auto services inside madipkkam were suspended . got an auto some time later and went to central along with dad , only to see that my mother had arrived an hour before and was waiting for us since 5 ( we reached at 6) . after that i went over to the suburban section and took a train to perambur .


phew !! just cut a long story short!! .

today is DIWALI and the mood was pretty high in the morning in tide with the explosions generated by the crackers . well now i know what it is to feel like staying in in a place like Iran or Kashmir as the blasts that u can hear from every corner of the city are a daily realistic phenomenen in such places . ok enough of rambling , gotto go and have a 2nd session with the crackers ! !

well i am just thru from an AMAZON ADVENTURE wading thru the waters ( upto two and a half feet ) and the various insects,frogs and snakes . i had gone to central to pick my mom at 6 am and i left home at 4 45 am . more on the adventure later . any of u guys who wanna contact me , pls do so at my cell number as i am not staying at my place due to the waterlogging. i will be today at my cousin's house at perambur and tommorow......... well EXAMOPHOBIA is at it's worst for me . i have this very bad habit of keeping things for the last moment and that really shows in my exam paper !!!! the other exams from no- 3 to 6 have just been ok with no-3 and no-6 giving me nightmares ............ all that matters when it comes to writing the madras university BE exams , is that u have to present it neatly underlining all important points ( no matter what crap is inside- JUST FILL IN THE PAGES) . Well all i can say is that when this is the case most of my college guys make sure they know the subheadings and topics to spin their story in bits and bytes. this is where i lose out, and the difference is a whole 9-10% !!!!

all i can say of exams is that it's 2 weeks of tyranny writing it, 2 months of tyranny waiting for the damn results 2 months of tyranny preparing for it and this cycle repeats twice in a year !!!!!!!!!!!!

1 more enemy to conquer ......... err........ lets say 1 more enemy to visit and make compromises, and then thankfully we break for abt 17 days.
so i guess i shall be back on 31st of oct. till then CIAO

lazyness + overconfidence = bad day at the office

well today we had DBMS exam and since i had read around 6-7 chapters deeply in the study hols , i thought i had an edge over my classmates in terms of knowledge ,so spent the 1/2 day holiday in watching Amisha Patel in Humraaz and the next half dozing but alas all that went in vain today .
i came in the morning with a couple of units to finish off in a relaxed mood , saw most of the guys having a "made easy series" book in their hands and they told me that they had read all the 5 units .I envied them at that stage coz i had put in roughly 30 hours to read DBMS really in depth(even then i finished only 3 units) and here these guys in a matter of hours finished it, thanks to those stupid local 30 pages book.

well that made me tense bcoz , 2 units meant 24 marks and i didnt want to miss out on it , but i still had to do a little revision of what i had previously studied , so here i was -1 hour to go and i had to make a tradeoff between -to be read - and -revise already read- . the next one hour i tried loading my brain with all kinds of stuff and i was literally blank because of my stupid tradeoff , when i went into the hall. it took a lot of time to remember things that i had studied and in the end the exam turned out to be a case of sour grapes for me . i was just not able to think and concentrate and just wrote mechanically what came to mind . out of 80 i guess i will only be able to manage only somewhere between 40-50 ....

a real bad day it was .............. and i am now determined to put this debacle behind my mind and focus strongly on my forthcoming exams .

maths is over and i am gleaming with joy as the subject DISCRETE MATHS looked a little tough before preparation , but yesterday's paper was a absolute sitter , but even then i have made some unpardonable mistakes. but all said and done , considering the tension minutes before entering into the hall , i am happy with the outcome of the paper. yesterday was a mixed day in terms of fortunes as the law of averages caught up with me in the afternoon. in the ecstacy of finishing the exam well i forgot my hall ticket inthe class bench and in realised that when i had travelled around 25 km from my college( somewhere near ambttur -anna nagar). I immideately called up my friend aanand who stays in ambattur , as he took me in his vehicle from ambattur to college and my hall ticket and gel pen were lying safe in the 'dustbin'-(courtesy AAYA).

well there is a limit of forgeting things and i exceeded that , bcoz knowing my college's attitude they would make me run pillar to post to get a duplicate hall ticket . gotta go to study after i decided to invest my time last night watching the ravishing amisha patel in HUMRAAZ on ZEE.

well i am in the process of taking short periods of studies in between long hours of breaks ! !!!! . well gotto step on the gas in terms of studying ,.. i guess that will be all for the day ..........

started some thing serious with maths and VLSI , with a bit of OS as a topping !!!! . the next few days are going to be in solitude studying for my exams after which i have a small plan to freak out somewhere in a hilll station , time permitting . anybody from our college wanting to join me can do so by contacting me kartik_kannan@rediffmail.com.

well my labs are over and i am euphoric over my performance in OS lab. so gotta get ready for the main exams that start on 17th .
i got a wonderfulexternal examiner yesterday who was very student friendly so unlike the female we had for DBMS . that female i heard was from Sairam Engg college ( that is a another cracked college ! ! ! !). well all is well that ends well . last evening after college i went to Udayam Theatre along with my friend prassna for the movie RUN. well the movie was pretty good with Vivek's comedy being rip roaring... i've some day gotta have a compilation of his comedies . they seem very logical and all the jokes are intelligent jokes!!

phew..................... i had a really bad external examiner today , must be a real psycho the way she asked questions not waiting for me to finish it. here i am , my voice fully in a triumphant tone ,called the examiner to check my program and verify the output and she comes and puts in garbage values ( like putting characterers inn space of numbers box) and says my program has one error even though it works to perfection. that really had me pissed of , as i was expecting her to sign and put a 40/40 for my expt , but all i could do is just gape in disbelief at her audacity to point out that stupid unwanted error!!

well tommoro0w is a holiday and i've gotto prepare 4 OS lab .so bye to blogging .

oh........... i am feeling so sad that rain decided to show it's power and might in the ICC trophy finals last night and prevented India from winning it . never mind i guess India has a another shot at it today at the lankans .MODERN RAMAYANA-if i could put it that way , with lankan's up against ram's(saurav ganguly) vanara(sehwag looks like one! !) . army. and it was due to holy intervention that INDIA gave lanka the ultimatum 'live to fight another day' coz the rain god's can only rain there , they cant dare think of comin to chennai . i challenge the rain gods there in lanka to show their might against the city of chennai( and i woyld wish them best of luck in that coz chennai is tooooooooooo hot and warm).

that means 8 hours of my server(cranium) will be idle in executing the process of watching the ICC trophy final rather than glancing at the CODES for tommorow's lab exam. what do do ? cricket is like a NASHA OR OPIUM for me .
