I am just back from bangalore.......after writing ORACLE's test for freshers (walk in ). The test was of moderate level, I didnt qualify for the 2nd stage .Then yesterday ...at Kyocera ....walk in we were kicked out....as the crowd there was too much for the organizers to digest...
I've learnt a few lessons...
1 GOLDEN RULE" never walk-in to an IT company without a proper employee referall.
2 have a GODFATHER (A.K.A HR ) in every comapny that u plan to write a test in ....
3 be there 2-3 hours before the scheduled registration procedures.

HERE IS A SMALL PART OF MY TOU DIARY OF THE TOUR I UNDERTOOK FROM MAY 6TH TO 23RD.
Day 1 may 6th 2004
8 am : I am off to guindy station to pick up my friend M.S Arvind (a.k.a chatter box) who is spending , what he calls his last day in Chennai as he plans to relocate to Mumbai . it is a little sad to part off with a guy who’s been a close buddy (however foolish his pranks were ) . so we ignite college memories of the last 4 years in my home , even as I pack my luggage for my tour , for which arvind too was to come , but got a job in Mumbai,so he couldn’t join us for the tour.
1 pm drop arvind and pick up sakthi who joins me from madipakkam enrote to central and proceed in the call taxi with amma also ,coming to see me off.
4 10 pm: 25 minutes for the train to flag off and no signs of Vishnu and kishore
4 11 pm :kishore spotted near dishnet hub at central, he had been late due to his bag tearing in the last minute and him having to borrow a friends bike and do some last minute shopping buying a new bag and fitting all the clothes inside.
4 35 the train flags off and we are on our way …..the tours just begin …GT express slowly chugs it’s way out of tamilnadu …..and we meet a guy called “sandip” from the eee dept of our outgoing batch and …….the journey is full of college gossips over the last 4 years ….heroes and villains of vel tech are discussed at length till Vijayawada station comes at 11 50 pm . sandip goes back to his compartment to get some sleep as he is to get down at Ramagundam which is slated to come at 4 am .
day 2
As usual I am the first to get up in the train ….waiting for some sumptuous meal at the stopping stations as the railway breakfast in the II nd sleeper wasn’t all that good .
The whole day passes uneventfully in the train as I keep shuttling across with my friends from our compartment to the pantry and of course filling water in the wayside stations
All I remember about eating is ….I try out a Black forest cake at nagpur station . the evening is a little eventful as a fat guy comes and requests we 6 to adjust so that his child can sit (at Bhopal ) ,we agree but slowly as time passes his two other kids and his cousin are sitting along with us , with we cramped for space . we learn how cunning and deceptive people in these parts of the country can be …
Another noteworthy event was we closing our eyes and pretending to sleep whenever we heard the sound of eunuchs entering our compartment .
Day 3
We reach new delhi at 5 15 in the morning and struggle with our luggages to shift 12 platforms away to catch our 6 o clock train to kalka station (chandigarh ) . I switch on my walkman and catch a first glimpse of delhi’s private radio stations RADIOMIRCHI, RADIOCITY AND RED FM ………but an hour later ….as the train moved away from delhi …….the FM signals stop coming.
As the train chugs it’s way into Punjab the an unruly mob asks(orders rather ) shakthi and kishore to get up and they find refuge in the train steps. We go thru lands with yellowish green flowers ,pretty similar to the flowers seen in DDLJ . I am the only one to have my breakfast and lunch as others don’t seem to be in a mood to eat.
Reach kalka at 12 and relegate ourselves to a general compartment where only 2 seats to sit are available for the 6 of us . we are happy traveling footboard in this slow toy train . meet a few immature Punjabi “singhs” who tease us , feeling that “sala madrasis” wont understand hindi. We are at the butt of their comments and they start start verbally assaulting us in an indirect manner . we don’t give a ear to what those rascals have to say , but such provoking reaches a boiling point , when sakthi and I apart from our seats ,occupy their seats at a station and start cracking santa –banta sardar ji jokes “ ARE U RELAXING ? NO I AM BANTA SINGH “ a few more jokes like these and they learn the art of being quiet.
We are scheduled to reach shimla by the toy train at 5 pm , but end up being late by 3 and half hours reaching the station at 8 30 pm , thereby cutting short our intended night shopping plan. Much to our dismay the hotel we’ve booked is 5kms from the station and it would cost 150 rs to reach there as it is a sealed area. We settle into our hotel room and eat our dinner very late at a roadside dhaba ,just when it’s about to close and finally I get to charge my mobile at shimla ………the night was pretty cold …….
DAY 4
I wake up at 6 and ask the guys to come for a morning walk,but after last nights tiresome journey no one is ready to wake up. I decide to explore shimla on my own …by going for a long morning walk and have chai at a nearby dhaba. I see the ridge and the mall and head back to the hotel room (HOTEL SATKAR ) an hour later . We load our camera’s with film and test out a few photos in the room .
As we wander through shimla at noon we are approached by a travel agent there and he convinces us into taking a Toyota qualis for rent paying 4500 for 6 persons as our hotel in manali is very far off from the city and we decide to do some local sight seeing today and the next day
The guy who sits in the back seat immediately vomits ….and arvind (anand’s brother ),sakthi and jack do so …..kishore and I refuse to sit back as we are the only ones who talk hindi in the group , so we have to guide the driver (nice excuse ) .The whole day is spent whistling through the valleys enroute shimla to kullu and we stop at a native kullu cloth emporium factory where we get shawls,jerkins,sweaters ….etc at half the actual price since we bought it directly from the factory.
We drive through some of the most scariest terrains at night and finally reach our hotel (SARTHAK ) which is situated on nagger road ,8 kms from manali . On going there we dicover that the documents needed to be produced the next day at the youth hostel trekking camp were left behind at shimla ……….booooo hoooooooooooooooooooooooo
DAY 5
We get up at 5 am and bzzzzzzzz is it freezing ? it’s damn cold in the morning with patches of snow just a few glances away . it must have been around 10 degrees there. We get into our jeep at 6 30 in the morning and set off to reach ROHTANG PASS ,which I hear from the locals , that the area received heavy snow in the past few days and we might witness sub zero temperatures ……..wow ………….
We stop at a shop and take some woolen equipment on rent paying 100 bucks each and are lured into going skating/skiing , so we pay 200 per person extra and with all the gear head off to conquer rohtang !!! In between we stop at a dhaba at 11000 feet above sea level to have our breakfast (mine was …..omlette and noodles ) . Arvind still continues his vomiting streak ……..vomitting on ice …..aha at least one gets free water to wipe one’s mouth here.
Soon we entered a zone where water…….was there above sea level and nothing but water …….or ice alone was there ……….we entered small tunnels of ice driving through them and finally the point arrived. Strong winds and the whitest white snow 360 degrees allover greeted us ……and we started off by throwing ice at each other ,then marched of to a quiet corner to earmark some space ……for us to do skiing without any prohibition.
Since we paid 300 bucks per person ……we decided we will ski for at least 2-3 hrs , but that proved our undoing as the weather was terribly chill (probably -1 ,0 or 1 degree ) and to beat it the sun was shining towards our direction which was blinding in a sense ….and that sapped all our energies ……..Kishore and aanand some how still had some energy in arguing with a local over buying 10 grams of a herb powder that is available only in leh and ladakh in it’s native form. They ultimately bargained and bought 30 grams of this substance called “SHILAJEET “ which ultimately was a native version of VIAGRA ,which we found out a week later , while trekking .
We were definitely the end of it all , but I stopped to have one final look at this place where we enjoyed to our hearts content, learnt skiing and skating ……and yes bargained ….for something we wouldn’t need at this age (SHILAJEET !!!!! ) .

A LIVING CORPSE
Thats what I am ....presently now...I have just returned from RIGID HOSPITAL in kilpauk after my 10 day stay there for an operation there.
well actually for the past one year or so ...my stomach has been complaining whenever it's been fed food of not so good nature and whenever there seems to be an over dose of oil in it.It complained in the form of severe stomach pain and frequent vomitting ...2-3 times a week.
so after consulting many gastroenterology doctors in chennai (who couldnt figure head or tail of my problem )i decided to give a last shot at LIFELINE CLINIC at shastri nagar ,adayar where they figured out I may have a small block in the small intestine ....and lo... i had 4 huge blocks in my small intestine that cudnt be easiily removed....so they had to cut open my stomach in 3 places and via laproscopy ....managed to construct a bypass and also take out the blocks....
at the end of it even after a week after the opeartion I still cant walk normally ..I Guess it shall take a month....for me to recover ...more on this in a later post.

CARRY ON DOCTOR
yesterday I happened to wait for about 2 hrs at a clinic in adyar to meet a doc to discuss the state of affairs of my stomach and finally when I met him.......he spoke to me for about 100 seconds.....and after seing my reports he immideately decided on a CT scan ..........to be done...."just for rs 7000?"
these days doctors seem to be suggesting unwanted tests and complicated procedures ,just because their hospital has some medical facilities .
who ever said TIME IS MONEY .........i think my doc is a staunch follower of this line ..........

I reached Chennai on teh 23rd morning and immideately made a getaway to the POLARIS ENTRANCE TEST held at some unknown school at kilpauk.The competition was so intense there , as one had to literally barge his way in on a first-come-first serve basis after patiently waiting in the sweltering 40 degree sun for a couple of hours.
my shirt and pant were as wet as if i had jumped in a swimmming pool.....but i guess one has to brave all that if one has to join a company of that repute...
I Will soon post my tour diary in a day or two....i still dont seem to have recovered from my tour fatigue...all i seem to do is z zz zzz zzzz zzzzz

phew......my trekking trip is over and finally I have had my bath after a week . I am now in new delhi staying in a guest house in karol bagh,new delhi . I last had my bath at the hot water springs in manikaran(himachal pradesh) .
during the trek , we saw some breathtaking scenery and they are etched in 5 rolls .....which need to be printed. if possible they shall be done today else ...only after i reach chennai .
I am slated to reach chennai on the 23rd ...morning and immideately attend a test for entry into polaris .......

FINALLY
finally water starved chennai has got it's due with heavy showers lashing chennai last evening and early this morning .........it was fun getting wet in the rain , but certainly wasn't all that fun to have my bike , not starting as it got wet in the rain ,when i had parked it at the guindy railway station.it took me 2hrs to come home from guindy station as i had 3 break journeys with my bike refusing to start ...........at times....
Today I will be attending one of my friends Joshy's sisters wedding . It would be the first time I would see a christian wedding ceremony .........

THE LAST TIME I ........................
I am feeling a little nostalgic about leaving college .......every thing to come in the next few days will start with ......"THIS IS THE LAST TIME I .........DID THIS IN COLL " . april 17th I had my last journey with pras in the college bus and PTC ......and now slowly things will unfold........on may 5th .......which would be a day of "my last time i , slept in college,got princi's sign,ate in the canteen,said "hi da mama,machan ", gave a furtive glance at my HOD's window,last time i cursed him,last time i went to the department,toilet ............................infinity .................

finally there is some activity that my idle btain can now do. I have signed up for THINKSOFTGLOBAL's test this saturday on the 1st of may .....at 3 pm in santhome school.

IT's raining BITS at BCL
well in this bandwith starved era of dial up thru an OC bsnl ............this 2 and a half hour browsing experience here has been like having a 5 bucket bath in water starved chennai !!!!! . i've just got a little too bored browsing here .........might consider it quits for now and come back for the AC (knowledge also.....! ! ) tommorow .

Damn it ............the British counciol library doesn't seem to be allowing members to browse their email here at BCL. seems u can go only to educational sites. That's precisely the reason why i got a browsing seat as soon as i came here. looks like the crowd has died down after a CENSOR on email was declared here .
generally i get a seat in the brwosing centre at BCL only a good 1 or 2 hours after i've entered the library as the rush was great for the 5-6 odd systems they had. but now they have around 20 systems ......but the mad scramble for systems has died down and secondly now a person can sit on the web for an unlimited amount of time ,unlike the half hour slot that was given earlier.now the only advantage of that is as a true student one can have untramelled access to the net as and when we want it . well all i can say is i'l give BCL a thumbs up for their efforts to make people read more resources on the web rather than checking ......personal mail.
The library sports a totally trimmed and different look and looks really chic ......

i just signed up on GMAIL on google ........it seems to offer 1000 mb ,against yahoo's 5 and hotmail's 2 ............cool i need to delete any mail.
I came back from my grandparents Sadhabishekam ........(80 th birthday cum marriage celebration's ) held at tirukadiyur .we were lodged in a olden days mansion .......it was real fun staying in a house full of pillars and olden day facilities with an open outlet for the rainwater to come in . It resembles a bit of my friend Achut's house in triplicane ...........with darkness preserved and cobwebs hanging around.
It was 2 days of fun , with a small family gettogether at this place .My stomach ache showed up that place too and it was the worst stomach ache and vomitting attack I 've had over these 12 months . it lasted from 6 in the evening to 2 in the morning. Every time I vomitted , the stomach ache was getting more intense and my stomach decided to throw up until the last morcel in my stomach was removed ..............It became so worse that I had to literally drink water to makie sure even that small bit came out and made me more relieved.
The second day was fun as my cousins and I finished 5 rolls of camera film shooting our THATHA AND PATI ..............and we are awaiting the video CD to be out ....

I came back from my grandparents Sadhabishekam ........(80 th birthday cum marriage celebration's ) held at tirukadiyur .we were lodged in a olden days mansion .......it was real fun staying in a house full of pillars and olden day facilities with an open outlet for the rainwater to come in . It resembles a bit of my friend Achut's house in triplicane ...........with darkness preserved and cobwebs hanging around.
It was 2 days of fun , with a small family gettogether at this place .My stomach ache showed up that place too and it was the worst stomach ache and vomitting attack I 've had over these 12 months . it lasted from 6 in the evening to 2 in the morning. Every time I vomitted , the stomach ache was getting more intense and my stomach decided to throw up until the last morcel in my stomach was removed ..............It became so worse that I had to literally drink water to makie sure even that small bit came out and made me more relieved.
The second day was fun as my cousins and I finished 5 rolls of camera film shooting our THATHA AND PATI ..............and we are awaiting the video CD to be out ....

ENGINEERING
One of my friends got this as an SMS which indeed is quite true in case u happen to idle three hours writing creative stories and reasearch papers ..........in the name of writing the 8th semester university exams ..........read on
The 3 Poem: 3 months of lectures, 3 weeks of cycle tests, 3 days of study, 3 hours of exams, and 3 minutes of correction. That's engineering!

i am feeling so bored and lackadaisical ..........no activity interests me these days and to add to it ..........elements from outer space invade my stomach 2wice a week to dig out whatever was there ...
there seems to be certain logistical problems on our tour.We've tried extending it to jammu also ,but the guys should agree and more importantly shouldnt feel jaded at walking 28kms in vaishno devi .............. I am more so worried about one guy who gets scared at the sight of doing any small work that involves opening his mouth and doing anyactivity that involves exertion.....his mind wavers like a sine wave especially when it comes to taking decesions .................well All i can say is that managing people is an art that only few can do and i am being groomed and trained well by my fellow mate .....................(hey incase u r reading ,dont mind da , it's just a little frustrating that's why I am airing my vent on the web, no harm mate )

BANGALORE BECKONING
I just booked my tickets to bangalore to attend an interview,more of an informal chat with a company called KNOWLEDGEWORKZ which is basically on the lookout for information analysts ,who scan info relevant ...blah ...blah .....essentially on the lookout for god quizzers. This afternoon kishore and I are slated to meet anand at Spencers to do some shopping regarding our tour and also finalise our return journey.Anand , the shy guy he is , will be making his debut into entering spencer plaza ............(can u belive it ? a 21 year old guy staying in chennai for the past 21 years hasnt been to this place .........? )
I also have plans of visiting the beach and collecting our tour confirmation letters late in the evening from YHAI,chennai and to start preparing for the various company aptitude tests .
any body wanting to get in touch with me reg this company can sms me at 32695453 .I leave for angalore tommorow morning by brindavan.

NIRVANA
Thats how i feel these days ,after coming back home and lying down on the floor.there seems to be some sort of energy current from the floor that soothens me and makes me want to sleep there for hrs (more like a rejuvenation centre !!!)
Yesterdays CG exam was personally my worst exam as i didnt know the answer to a single long answer question and all i did was blab 32 pages of absolute crap.anyways gotta put that debacle behind me ........and prepare for Network security ,my next paper where i have some firm grounding with regard to the concept ....
well as soon as the exam on 17th ends I am planning to to do a allout revision of all my last 4 yrs BE books mainly meant for preparation for these entrance exams to software companies.lots of IT recruitments seem to be cropping up , but the main problem is the oppurtunities re either in bangalore or delhi, so cant actually go and attend the interview.with the final sem exams still on.
and yes...........we still havent got the confirmation from shimla reg the double deluxe suite we booked for on may the 8th .................god help us........:-)

well our tour is finally underway .we've booked the tickets and are leaving chennai on the 6th of may via GT . we've booked our tickets upto shimla ..........and we've also booked rooms to stay in shimla , but still havent got the confirmation from the hotel manager ,even though we've transfered the room rent to his UTI bank accnt at simla

S P E E D -- PART 4
well I dont know why has it to happen always in the last minute for me .yesterday I , along with my other friends had to submit our north india tour application at teh youth hostel premises and the way it went was really a nerve wracking experience .
8 AM- in college to get signatures for the no -due form....
9 AM - am frustated seeing the huge line .......where i am asked to stand again in the queue as I havent got another sign from some non descript corner of the college
10 AM- the torcher is over, i finally get my hall ticket
12 45 reach home after an ardous journey battling the risng mercury in chennai.
3 PM -try to study but am lured by the phenomenen of slumber .........
5 pm make a headaway to my cousin's place , as my Chitti knows a doc ...to get the fitness certificates for all six of us ......
6 PM -expecting kishore ..........to come with the rest of the forms .....but he turns up at 745 pm
7 pm- waiting the doc's place .........
7 40- doc says she can issue medical certificate only for me as she has seen me , but not for the others.......as they are not present there...
7 55: we are still in guindy and yet to make our getaway to nesapakkam(youth hostel office in chennai which is open only from 7pm to 9 pm )
7 56 :decide to give up ..........as 5 of us , except me ....do not have sign in the medical fitness columbn..........
7 57 :decide ti give it a shot , or at least meet the YH guy .......and ask for extension.
8 12: go to 2-3 clinics--but no doc there.
8 15: go to pallava hospital ........wait for 5 mins for a duty doc.......who spends 10 mins ........saying that giving false medical certificates could land him and his hospital in problem...
8 30 - kishore gets his medical cert from pallava -paying 30 bucks.
8 35 we start our bikes .......looking out for ........small clinics with ........docs who are "relativvely vetti " .........
8 45 : kishore spots a small clinic adjacent to the road having a PCO booth.
8 50: the doctor there, a young 25-26 kinda age ........finally issues us 4 medical certs @ 20 rs per cert .
8 55 : we finally submit our application in the nick of time .............
9 pm: our tour date is finalised on may 7....(leaving chennai )
9 05 : am one heck of a happy man ............as we prevail against the odds

organizing something ......has always been a part of my life.My classmates at college had a big laugh in 3rd semester when i used to go for symposiums and at my attitude which suggested attending less of class and going out more for symposiums .I perdsonally felt that classes at college was horrible ...........and instead of losing my mood over these classes one could go out officially for a symposium and learn more...
when in 4th sem our symposium came up , I was the one who worked very hard at it , with some support from some like minded friends..........where still people laughed and mocked at me from doing things that werent directly connected with studies.........
I stil see the same attitude within guys of my college , when i asked them for their participation in the tour.............but i am happy that ii havent changed myself despite a few morale losses ...........during these years........
Their happiness at mockling me has made me even more strong ......to continue my efforts at heading and organizing things.suddenly I feel very resposnsible.............

tour cost : 1690 -11 day trekking program ......in kullu manali (food,mountain climbing course ,trekking,quipment cost included)
This price shown is ex-kullu .........the cost to travel to kullu rom chennai is our own.Incase at that [point of time (may 18) we are all different places it dosent matter , u can come directly to delhi and we can then then form a group and proceed from there.
This is being organized by Youth Hostel assossiation of India (24890976) .......and on succesful completion of the trekking program , we are awarded certificates.......from the govt of india......

may 18 :10 pm ......boarding tamilnadu express to delhi
may 19 :train
may 20 : 7 am in delhi.......have bath and take bus to manali......stay in manali ......
may 21 : go skating in snow, to the rohtang pass
may 22-june 1-trekking programme

june 4 -morning 7 am touchdown in chennai
